Outdoor Structures

Built to Match Your Decking

Custom pergolas, kitchens, seating, planters, saunas and garden rooms — designed and built to complement your deck.

We cover London + 25 mile radius. One team, one finish, steel frame throughout. 10+ years, 100+ projects.

Bespoke Pergola

Pergolas & Canopies

Architectural steel pergolas engineered to match your Millboard or composite deck line. We design them as part of the deck, not bolted on after. Fixed blade, retractable fabric, or louvred roof — all on the same steel frame system we use for everything else.

London gardens need shade without dark. Our pergolas create defined living zones, frame your seating, and carry lighting, heating and retractable roofs in one clean structure. Every post lines up with your deck joists and trim, so there are no awkward packers or visible bolts.

  • 3mm folded steel posts, 150x150 or 100x100, hot-dip galvanised + powder coated RAL 7016 / 9005 / 9003 as standard

  • Retractable waterproof fabric or 120mm aerofoil louvres, silent motorised

  • Integrated 24V LED, dimmable + IR heaters on same circuit — no trailing cables

Outdoor kitchen area with black wooden cabinets, a built-in grill, a sink, and a red kamado-style smoker, set against a dark wood wall and surrounded by a fenced yard with green grass and trees.

Outdoor Kitchens

Fully built outdoor kitchens with welded steel carcasses, 12mm porcelain or Dekton worktops, and integrated appliances. Designed around how you actually cook outside in the UK — storage for covers, drainage that works, and worktops that don't stain.

We don't sell flat-pack BBQ islands. We survey your appliances, how many you cook for, and where you want to prep vs serve. Fridge, sink, bins, Big Green Egg or Beefeater built-in, all set level with your deck so you can slide plates straight across. Gas and electrics are chased inside the steel, not clipped outside.

  • Welded steel carcass, completely weatherproof — no MDF, no timber frame to rot

  • Dekton / porcelain worktops, 12mm with shark-nose edge, UV and heat proof

  • Built-in BBQ, fridge, Quooker-ready sink, hidden services & deck-level plinth

WHY STEEL FRAME

A partially assembled metal outdoor shelf unit in a backyard with construction tools and materials scattered around, next to a tree, a wooden fence, and a house wall.

Timber looks good for a year. Steel looks good for 25.

We build everything from 3mm folded steel, hot-dip galvanised and powder coated to 80 microns. It’s why our structures sit perfectly level with Millboard and composite decking, never twist, and don’t need annual oiling. One material palette across your entire garden — pergola posts match handrail, planters match kitchen plinth.

In coastal and exposed sites across Essex and Kent, timber pergolas can start to twist in 12 months. Our steel is marine-grade coated and comes with a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty. We also chase all services — 24V lighting, 240V power, gas — inside the frame, so you never see trunking or clipped cables. If you already have a Decking Gurus deck, we colour-match the RAL and survey existing levels.

No Movement

Stays true & level. 0mm tolerance on deck junctions, no warping or shrinkage in summer.

Coastal Grade

Hot-dip galv + 80 micron powder coat. 25yr anti-corrosion, 10yr structure warranty.

Integrated Services

LED, heaters, audio, gas & drainage built inside posts. No visible services.

We work with Millboard, composite and hardwood decks daily. Timber structures move at a different rate to the deck, so gaps open and fixings show. Steel doesn't. That's why we standardised everything on steel.

A semi-circular wooden outdoor bench with integrated lighting, situated on a wooden deck surrounded by lush green hedges and trees, with a glass fence and some outdoor toys seen in the background.

Integrated Seating & Storage

Bespoke benches, corner loungers and storage boxes that sit flush with your deck. No wasted space, no loose furniture to drag inside every night. We build to your exact deck height with a 10mm shadow gap detail, so it reads as one piece of furniture.

Best for small London gardens where every metre counts. Lift the seat — gas struts hold it — and you have dry storage for cushions, throws, kids toys, or pool equipment. Optional outdoor foam and Sunbrella fabric made to your bench size, not generic.

  • Hydraulic stay-open storage, fully lined and ventilated to stop condensation

  • Iroko slats, Spotted Gum hardwood, or upholstered Sunbrella outdoor cushions

  • Built to deck board height with hidden fixings and shadow gap — no face screws

Millboard & Composite Matched

We build for Millboard Enhanced Grain, Lignia, Trex and hardwood. Board direction, shadow gap and fascia trim all line up. Your pergola isn't an extra — it's part of the deck drawing.

Bespoke, Not Modular

Every structure is drawn in CAD for your garden. No catalogue sizes. We work to the millimetre, around existing walls, drains, and levels. If it doesn't fit the space perfectly, we don't build it.

Built in Essex, Not On Your Lawn

We fabricate in our Chadwell Heath workshop. You get progress photos, not 6 weeks of sawdust and trades in your garden. Final install is typically 2-4 days.

A backyard patio with outdoor furniture including a beige cushioned armchair, a wooden coffee table with a slatted top, and a wooden sofa with beige cushions, decorated with colorful patterned throw pillows. The patio is bordered by wooden planters with green plants, and a low wood railing. In the background, there is a small garden shed, a grassy area, and a wooden fence with trees and bushes nearby. The sun is shining brightly, creating a glare on the right side of the image.

Planters & Privacy Screens

2mm folded steel planters and slatted privacy screens that soften boundaries and add height without blocking light. Adds greenery, privacy and structure — especially where you have overlooked gardens in RM6, Essex and South London.

We line every planter with insulation and drainage cells, so roots don't cook and steel doesn't sweat. Screens come in 30mm, 60mm and 90mm slat profiles, with 10mm, 20mm or 40mm gaps. Same powder coat as your pergola, balustrade and kitchen plinth, so your whole garden matches.

  • 2mm folded steel, fully welded, lined, insulated & drained with overflow

  • Privacy screens: 3 slat profiles, any RAL, fixed to steel posts — no timber to twist

  • Matched powder coat across pergola, planters, kitchen & handrail — one finish palette

From Idea to Installed in 4 Steps

Same team designs your deck and structures. One survey, one drawing set, one install. No juggling trades. We keep it simple — survey, design sign-off, off-site build, then install. You get a single point of contact from Chadwell Heath.

  • 1. Survey & Design

Consultation & site survey. We start with a remote consultation and detailed estimate. If the estimate is within your budget, we visit from RM6 for laser levels, drainage check and photos. We then produce CAD plan + 3D showing deck, pergola, kitchen and planters together. 2 rounds of revisions included. Visualisations are included free with a signed contract, otherwise as a paid design service.

  • 2. Fabrication

All steel is cut, folded, welded and powder coated in-house in our Chadwell Heath workshop. Iroko and composite is milled, porcelain is cut, and all lighting is pre-wired and tested before it leaves the workshop.

  • 3. Build Off-Site

Depending on the project size, we pre-build the whole setup in our Essex workshop. You get photos and video updates. No skip on your drive for 6 weeks. We arrange all access, including crane or carry-in if needed.

  • 4. Install in Days

Depending on project size and structures, installation is typically 3–6 working days on site. Everything is levelled to your deck with hidden brackets, not rawl plugs. Final electrics and gas are signed off by our Part P & Gas Safe partners.

Saunas & Wellness Pods

Compact outdoor saunas built on a steel base frame to sit cleanly on your Millboard deck without extra foundations. Cedar lined, properly insulated with Rockwool and vapour barrier, and ready for year-round use in the UK climate.

From 1.8m x 2.2m for two people to 3m x 4m family pods. Panoramic full-glass front optional, electric Harvia heater as standard, wood-fired by request. We build off-site in Essex, deliver on a lorry, and crane into place in a day. Power is a single 32A feed — we coordinate your electrician.

  • Thermally modified spruce shell + Canadian red cedar interior, no knots, no sap

  • 2-6 person layouts, bench layout drawn to your height, panoramic glass option

  • Built off-site in our workshop, installed in 1 day — no wet trades in your garden

Contemporary house with large sliding glass doors, wooden exterior, and outdoor patio furniture surrounded by trees and greenery.

Garden Rooms & Studios

Fully insulated garden buildings that share the same design language as your deck — steel fascia, same trim detail, bi-fold doors level with deck boards. For work, gym, or guest space that feels permanent and adds value, not a shed.

SIPs construction achieving 0.18 U-value walls, 0.13 roof. EPDM roof with steel edge, aluminium bi-folds or sliders, and electrics first-fixed. We finish with matching Millboard planters and steps, so the room and deck feel like one build. Building Regs drawings provided.

  • SIPs walls + steel fascia detail, plastered inside, EPDM warm roof, 25yr system

  • U-values for year-round use: walls 0.18, roof 0.13, floor 0.20 — electric heating sufficient

  • Bi-fold or sliding doors set flush to deck surface, no step, hidden drainage channel

OUTDOOR STRUCTURES FAQs

Do your pergolas need planning?

Most pergolas under 2.5m high and covering less than 50% of the garden are permitted development. If you're in a conservation area or need a solid roof, we flag it at survey and provide drawings for your council. Our steel posts can be bolted to the deck subframe so you don't need separate foundations.

Can you build on my existing Decking Gurus deck?

Yes — that's the point. We pull your original job file, check joist positions and RAL, and design the structure to land on joists, not just boards. If your deck is not ours, we survey the subframe first to confirm loadings, especially for kitchens and saunas.

What RAL colours do you offer?

Standard is 7016 Anthracite, 9005 Jet Black, and 9003 White. Any RAL for a small surcharge. We keep your RAL on file so planters, screens, kitchen plinth and pergola all match, and we can supply touch-up paint.

How long does it last vs timber?

Steel frame: 25-year anti-corrosion, 10-year structural. Millboard or composite seating: 25 years. Porcelain/Dekton worktops: lifetime. Timber pergolas often need re-oiling every year and can twist; ours need a wash down.

Do you handle electrics and gas?

We first-fix all cables and gas inside the steel and provide a lighting plan. Final connection is by our electrician and Gas Safe engineer, with certs. You just need to provide a supply to the deck edge — we tell your electrician exactly what at design stage.

What's the lead time?

Design 1–2 weeks, fabrication 1-3 weeks in our Romford workshop, install 2–4 days. Garden rooms and saunas are 6–8 weeks due to glazing and insulation. We don't start fabrication until you sign off CAD.
