Chiswick garden - old softwood deck rotten, uneven, dated. Client wanted real timber - not composite - authentic hardwood that suits period + contemporary mix in Chiswick. Needs to handle family use, dining, low-ish maintenance but natural look.

What We Built

  • Full rip-out of old deck + subframe

  • New precision subframe - strong, level, long-term - built around mature planting + boundaries - kept privacy

  • Premium hardwood boards - dense, durable, each board different grain - rich golden/honey tones new, will silver to grey if left, or keep colour with oiling

  • Open layout - maximises space, connects house to garden, room for dining + relaxing

  • Incorporated existing fencing + planting beds - deck sits in landscape, not dominating

Hardwood Notes for Client

  • Natural material: evolves - either let it go silver-grey (no maintenance) or oil 1-2x year to keep honey colour

  • Dense = strong for heavy traffic, moisture, insects, decades if installed right

  • Needs airflow underneath - subframe engineered for that
