This bespoke garden transformation demonstrates how thoughtful design, premium materials and exceptional craftsmanship can completely redefine a compact outdoor space. Designed and constructed by Decking Gurus, the project combines Millboard Enhanced Grain Golden Oak decking, bespoke hardwood slatted fencing, Raj Green Indian sandstone paving, reclaimed herringbone brick pathways, a handcrafted oak pergola, architectural lighting and carefully planned planting.

The original garden was overgrown, dated and lacked clear structure. By redesigning the entire space around a series of connected outdoor zones, the finished landscape now feels significantly more spacious, practical and refined. Every feature has been carefully coordinated so the garden works as one complete outdoor living environment rather than a collection of separate additions.

Complete Garden Redesign

When we first assessed the garden, the existing layout did not make effective use of the available space. Ageing timber decking, unmanaged planting and uneven surfaces limited both its appearance and functionality.

The client wanted a complete transformation that would introduce dedicated areas for dining, relaxing and entertaining while retaining the warmth and character of natural materials.

Careful spatial planning was essential because the garden needed several different functions without becoming visually overcrowded. The final layout divides the space into clearly defined zones while maintaining open sight lines and natural movement from the house to the rear of the garden.

Millboard Golden Oak Decking

Adjacent to the property, Millboard Enhanced Grain Golden Oak decking creates the principal terrace and establishes a warm transition between the interior and garden.

The Golden Oak finish introduces natural honey and timber tones that complement the hardwood fencing, oak pergola and surrounding planting. Millboard provides the appearance and texture of natural timber while avoiding the regular sanding, staining and oiling associated with traditional wood decking.

Concealed fixings and carefully aligned board layouts create a clean architectural finish, while the decking provides a practical surface for seating, entertaining and everyday outdoor use.

Bespoke Hardwood Slatted Fencing

One of the defining architectural features of the project is the bespoke hardwood slatted fencing, individually crafted to create privacy without making the garden feel enclosed.

The naturally varied colouring of the sandstone introduces warm earthy tones and texture that work particularly well alongside timber and planting. Each slab has its own subtle variation, giving the finished patio a more organic character than a completely uniform paving surface.

The sandstone provides a durable and timeless foundation beneath the pergola while helping distinguish the dining area from the Millboard terrace closer to the house.

Reclaimed Herringbone Brick Path

A reclaimed herringbone brick pathway links the different sections of the garden and introduces additional character and craftsmanship.

The herringbone pattern creates movement through the landscape while providing a strong visual contrast against both the sandstone paving and surrounding planting.

Using reclaimed brick helps the pathway feel established rather than overly new, adding texture and traditional character to the contemporary garden design.
